These are tried and true simple things you should NOT consider:

1. Background Music - People are not coming to your website to hear music (unless you're with a band!). Let's face it, all of us surf the web from time to time during a quick break from work and there is nothing more embarrassing than visiting a website and having a loud obnoxious background tune suddenly burst forth from your speakers.
2. Google Ads - People are not visiting your website to be sold something else. Just because you might make a few dollars a month on those ads does not mean they are necessarily a good idea. The idea is to draw people to your site for something useful and to do a little business with you.
3. Blinking and Rotating Displays - These serve no useful purpose other than distracting your visitors from your real content. Studies have proven over and over that you have approximately 3-4 seconds to grab someones attention before they navigate away. Do you want to waste that 3-4 seconds on an animated "Tickle Me Elmo?" We didn't think so!
4. Fancy Fonts and Wild Colors - Non web safe colors may not display correctly on the end users computer monitor. Out of this world fonts will not display either unless your end user happens to have that exact same font on their system. if they don't, the web browser reverts to a standardized font that is on the computer making the exorbitant fonts a waste of time and money.
5. Bells and Whistles with no Purpose - Don't be talked into spending a fortune on technology that will do little to keep your customers returning to your site or doing business with you. Stick with what works. Plan for elegant yet functional.
